Encompassing a total area of 2,373 miles and boasting an estimated 1.5 million residents Suffolk County is the second largest county in New York.

This jewel of Long Island was originally governed by Thomas Dongan. Dongan was assigned by Long Island’s owner James, Duke of York in the 17th centaury.
During a meeting The “Charter of Liberties and Privileges” was enacted on Nov. 1, 1863 by prerevolutionary delegates. It’s creation provided the framework for Suffolk county to be recognized as one of the 12 initial counties in New York.
