Dodge Automobile Company
The “Dodge Brothers”
The Dodge Automobile Company was founded in nineteen hundred by John and Horace Dodge. The brothers started out working for Ford Motors. They started their own car company in nineteen hundred building engines and car parts for Ford and came out with their first Dodge car in nineteen fourteen. The first Dodge was called the Dodge Model 30. The car was an instant success and sales were strong. In nineteen thirty, both Dodge brothers died. Their company was continued by the new owners as Dodge except their Model 30 was changed to Series 116 and trucks were added to their production line of vehicles. The Dodge car stayed the same in styling and parts until nineteen twenty seven when the Senior Model was put on the market. Soon after the Senior Model, the company developed the Standard and the Victory Models. Also, Dodge cars were changed from four cylinder to six cylinder cars.
These newer models and higher cylinder cars did not help to keep sales up at Dodge and the company was sold to Chrysler Corporation in nineteen twenty eight. The addition of Dodge to Chrysler helped Chrysler’s sales by adding Dodge sales. The models that were produced as Dodge trademarks by Chrysler were limited and those models kept were redesigned to fit in with Chrysler style and cost. The look and price of Dodge cars stayed the same until nineteen sixty when the Lancer sedan and the Dart were manufactured. Later, the Dodge Challenger was marketed. The company also manufactured the minivan when that model became fashionable with young families.
Dodge cars are still made by Chrysler. Newer changes to their automotive parts include rear wheel drive and its powerful V10 engine that makes Dodge a sports car and in that category there is the Dodge Charger, Challenger and the Avenger. The Dodge hatchback, the Caliber is one of Dodges latest models. Most people think of Dodge as a sports car, and insurance companies sell sports car insurance to owners of Dodge cars. The car is basically large and well designed in the interior. The exterior is smooth with no rugged lines either on Dodge cars or on Dodge trucks. The cars sold as Dodge are easily identified due to their special styling.
