It started with motorcycles
In 1917, BMW became a business due to restructuring of a company named Rapp Motorenwerk aircraft manufacturing. After the end of World War II, BMW had to cease production of aircraft engines. This was because of the Versailles Armistice Treaty.

In 1934 the 135/1 Roadster came out with a sporty car with low cut doors and an engine that went about 125 miles an hour. In 1935, the 328 Roadster is described as one the best cars BMW produced. It had two tone paint and a coupe body, It went about 80 miles per hour.
In 1941, the production of BMW autos stopped. In 1951 after the war they produced a 501 Luxury Sedan that was a poor choice for country ruined by war The plant under Soviet Control produced large sturdy dependable cars during that time. In 1954 they produced an V-8 engine made of aluminum and a car the R68 that went up to 160 miles per hour.
In 1959, Herbet Quant bought a large number of shares in the company and reorganized it. He was the reason BMW rose in status as a global company. After rejecting a takeover the company developed the 700 a sporty car that put them back in the public limelight. It was a 2 door coupe. They designed a racing version that won many local competitive car races.
During 1965 they focused on cars and motorcycles. They bought factories in Dingofing during 1955 that became the largest manufacturing plants. In the 1970’s, BMW was a commercial success. They invest in research and development in car computers and electronics in 1979. These innovations includes a microcomputer that synchronized fuel injection systems, fuel savings, and better engine performance.
In 2012 BMW was listed as one the most reputable companies by Forbes Magazine. The company continues to design and manufacture quality cars.
