In the 1830;s, Bernado Yorba, for whom the city was names, received a 13,000 acre grand of land by Mexico that was kept by the family after the Mexican American War and is still owned by descendants. The Bernardo Yorba Hacienda is registered by the California Historical Landmark. Close to that site is the Historic Yorba Linda Cemetery.
Part of the land was sold in 1907 and divided into industry and farming. The orange and lemon groves were plant. In 1912, the first city built the first post office and church, and electricity was provided. The town was known as the residence of Richard Nixon who was born in the city. The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is located in Yorba Linda.
