Founded on January 19, 1911 through the merger of two villages, Olinda and Rudolph, Brea began with a population of only 752 people, most of them employed in the oil industry. Citrus farming developed in Brea during much of the early Twentieth Century. By 1957, the expansion of nearby cities led to the construction of the Orange Freeway through town. Increasing commercial activity followed, and a large mall opened in the community in 1970. Brea’s population now exceeds 40,000 and the city has developed into a thriving commercial center. Points of interest include shopping malls, Arovista Park and Olinda Oil Museum and Trail.
